The Global Silent Pandemic
Antimicrobial Resistance threatens to undermine decades of progress in modern medicine. In the WHO South-East Asia Region (SEAR), indiscriminate over-the-counter dispensing of broad-spectrum antibiotics, combined with agricultural antimicrobial usage, creates high drug-resistance pressure.
The One Health Approach
Nepal's National Action Plan on AMR embraces the tripartite collaboration between:
- Human Health (Ministry of Health and Population)
- Animal & Livestock Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development)
- Environmental Sector (Forestry & Water Quality monitoring)
WHO AWaRe Classification Implementation
Public health institutions are mandated to implement the WHO AWaRe (Access, Watch, Reserve) antibiotic framework, targeting at least 60% of nationwide antibiotic consumption from the 'Access' group.
