Transfusion services in Nepal are coordinated largely through the Nepal Red Cross Society and hospital-based blood banks. Find a centre near you, check its hours, and see what each one reports about stock.
Stock labels are reported by centres and change quickly — always call before travelling.
How to request blood for a patient
- 1. The treating hospital raises a written requisition with the patient's blood group and the number of units required.
- 2. Take the requisition, the patient's admission details and a photo ID to the nearest listed blood bank.
- 3. Most centres run a replacement-donor system: arrange voluntary donors (family, colleagues, community) for the units issued.
- 4. Cross-matching is done by the issuing centre or hospital lab. Never accept unscreened blood from an informal source.
Donor basics
- • Age 18–60, body weight 45 kg or more.
- • Haemoglobin and blood pressure checked on site.
- • Wait at least 3 months between whole-blood donations.
- • Defer if you have fever, recent infection, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- • Eat, hydrate and carry a photo ID before you donate.
Final eligibility is decided by the screening officer at the donation centre.
