At Public Health Concern Nepal (PHC-Nepal), we believe there is no health without mental health. Today, we are proud to share the details of the upcoming national initiative: “Swastha Man Swastha Jiwan: Mental Health Awareness Campaign 2082.”

With the powerful slogan “Man Ko Kura Garau” (Let’s Talk About the Mind), this campaign aims to break the silence surrounding mental health issues across Nepal.

Why This Campaign Now?

The Mental Health Campaign 2025/2082 is designed to promote awareness, empathy, and collective well-being nationwide. It specifically targets the “Gen Z” demographic and youth, aiming to bridge the gap in access to mental health services.

Crucially, this initiative addresses the psychosocial impact of recent social movements and protests, helping individuals—especially the youth—build resilience and adopt healthy coping skills in the face of complex social situations.

Campaign Objectives

Led by the Ministry of Health and Population and the National Health Education, Information and Communication Centre (NHEICC), the campaign has set clear goals:

  • Reduce Stigma: Eliminate discrimination and hatred associated with mental health problems.
  • Normalize Conversation: Engage community leaders, teachers, and celebrities to make talking about mental health “normal”.
  • Build Skills: Promote healthy coping mechanisms and stress management techniques.

Three Months of Action

The campaign is scheduled to run for three months (Starting December 10, 2025, to March 14, 2026), with each week focusing on specific themes:

  1. Weeks 1-4 (Understanding & Coping): Normalizing emotions, understanding that not all stress is bad, and practicing self-care and mindfulness.
  2. Weeks 5-6 (Identifying Conditions): Basic information on anxiety, depression, and living with mental health conditions.
  3. Weeks 7-8 (Seeking Help): Busting myths about medication and explaining what to expect from therapy.
  4. Weeks 9-10 (Suicide Prevention): recognizing risks, “Suicide First Aid,” and safety planning.
  5. Weeks 11-12 (Connection): Connecting communities to ongoing services and concluding the campaign.

An Analogy to Remember

Think of our mental health like a backpack we wear every day. Sometimes, life puts heavy rocks (stress, trauma, anger) in that pack. If we never open the pack to reorganize it or ask a friend to help us carry it, the weight becomes unbearable, and we might collapse. This campaign, “Man Ko Kura Garau,” is essentially teaching us how to open that backpack, show the rocks to someone we trust, and learn how to carry the load more comfortably.
