Celebrated across all provinces with a stunning closing event in Central.
The Nepal Public Health Association (NepHA) has officially celebrated that Nepal’s First “National Public Health Day 2024” on Mangsir 23, 2081 (December 9, 2024). This important occasion not only commemorates the 34th anniversary of NepHA’s establishment but also provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and advocate for the critical role of public health in Nepal.

Background
Established on Mangsir 23, 2047 B.S., NepHA has been a pivotal organization in Nepal’s health sector. Over the years, it has worked tirelessly to provide expert guidance in health policy formulation, strategic planning, and the promotion of public health initiatives across the country. To commemorate its founding day, NepHA has declared Mangsir 23 as National Public Health Day, with the slogan “Invest in Public Health, Build a Healthy Nation.”
Event Highlights
The main celebration took place on Mangsir 23, 2081, (9th Dec 2024) at Hotel Himalaya, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, starting at 11:00 AM. The event will be graced by the presence of Honorable Health and Population Minister, Mr. Pradip Paudel, as the chief guest, along with other distinguished leaders, health professionals, and stakeholders.
Additionally, a Province Days Program was held from Mangsir 14 to Mangsir 20, ensuring active participation from all provinces to raise awareness and engage communities across Nepal.
What Ministry and other officials Said:
Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel has stated that it is necessary to focus on preventive aspects of health infrastructure and work on raising awareness. He emphasized the need to work towards a healthy Nepal and a healthy future generation during a program organized today by the Nepal Public Health Association.
“The state’s responsibility is to provide treatment when someone is sick. However, when the number of patients increases, it may not be possible to provide free treatment for all,” he said, “The main question is how to keep everyone healthy and how to provide services at a low cost.” He expressed confidence that the presence of the public health sector would make it easier to achieve these goals.
Dr. Roshan Pokhrel, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population, mentioned the need for public health officials in the health sector. He said, “If we can manage resources, we need public health officials in all local levels; a separate health act is indeed required. We are in the process of creating it. The competency of public health workers is needed in policymaking.”
