Immunization Act, 2072 (2016)

खोप ऐन, २०७२

Issued by Parliament of Nepal · 2016

In short: Makes immunisation every child's right and sets up a national Immunization Fund so vaccine financing is sustainable.

Overview

Nepal was among the first countries in the region to pass a law dedicated to immunisation. The Act makes vaccines under the national programme free. It also protects funding for vaccines and sets standards for storing and handling them.

Key provisions

  • Every child has the right to free vaccines under the national immunisation schedule.
  • Parents and guardians are responsible for having their children vaccinated.
  • A national Immunization Fund pools money from government and other sources.
  • Standards for vaccine quality, the cold chain and reporting of adverse events after immunisation (AEFI).

Why it matters

The Act protects vaccine financing and supports Nepal's work to fully immunise children in every municipality.

What it means for practitioners

  • Report every AEFI through the official surveillance channels.
  • Keep cold-chain temperature logs. They are a legal quality requirement.
